Inside the Illustration
Spread 12: Special Symbols
This page was inspired by a page in an I SPY book that I have. Copy is in the middle, and random objects are spinning around it. I wanted to include this page because I’m sure there are some symbols that are not included in the book, but that are a huge part of remembering a loved one. I included some things that make me think of my mom. I included some things that make my friends/relatives think of their lost loved one. And I included some blank space in case there is something you want to add to your book using stickers, pictures, or even a sharpie!
I did the initial line drawing with a graphite pencil on white paper. I colored in the drawing with colored pencil, blended slightly with a Q-tip, and finally outlined with a Sharpie fine tip marker. The vertical lines that are present are from the texture of the paper. I scanned the illustration, did a little photoshop / post-processing work, and finally formatted bleeds and copy in Adobe illustrator.
Hardest part: Making it all look cohesive
Easiest part: Symbols could be “recycled” from previous pages
Favorite part: That these things make me think of my mom
